As Europe moves to increase its energy independence from Russia, demand for floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) has been booming. To meet this demand, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Finland, and Estonia have all chartered FSRUs to rapidly boost their LNG import capacity, and those efforts are beginning to bear fruit.
Delmar has played a crucial role in the construction of several FSRUs and floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) projects in recent years. This includes supplying anchors for projects such as the Livorno FSRU, Moheshkhali FSRU, Summit FSRU, and Petronas SATU FLNG.
In 2022, Delmar and CAN Systems were jointly awarded the design and supply of the mooring system for the INGS LNG Alexandroupolis (FSRU). The mooring chains have been already successfully delivered at Alexandroupolis Port whilst the anchors and the restrictors are envisaged to be delivered by mid-April 2023.
The INGS LNG Alexandroupolis (FSRU) is one of the most significant energy projects realized in recent years, with high importance for Greece, Bulgaria and the wider region, since it materially contributes to the diversification of energy sources and routes for the entire Southeast Europe, enhances energy security and competition in the region, and supports the creation of a regional Natural Gas Hub.
The project is strategically located at the crossroads of the Southern and Vertical Gas Corridor and offers access to Liquified Natural Gas to the markets of Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, Northern Macedonia and further to the NE Europe.
Recently, Delmar was also awarded the hookup operations engineering and execution for an important floater.
In addition, Delmar has just delivered anchors for an LNG project in Mexico and will conduct the mooring prelay operations in the coming months.
LNG has become critical to Northern Europe's energy security, and Delmar is proud to contribute to providing cost-efficient solutions for LNG export and import.
