CO2
reduction

Eco-friendly practices are high on the priority list of global enterprises today. The oil industry has set clear emission reduction targets for 2030 and 2050 respectively, proactively working towards zero emissions in the future. Delmar Systems & Vryhof want to make our own significant contribution. And we also want people to see it.

Semi-submersible drilling rigs can be kept in place by means of Dynamic Positioning (DP) technology. This technique requires the constant use of diesel fuel to operate the DP-controlled propellers, which comes at a rather high financial and environmental cost. Indeed, rigs have to be kept at an exact location for weeks and months, sometimes as long as a year. Using efficient pre-laid moorings is the environmental solution for station keeping, using Delmar System’s and Vryhof's mooring and anchoring techniques.

You can imagine that this will significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels and, consequently, result in much lower CO2 and NOx emissions. We decided we wanted to keep count, for everyone to see, on this website.

Ecological movements have been gaining ground in many parts of the world. Norway, for example, is one of the forerunners when it comes to actions aimed at reducing the environmental impact. As early as in 2007 the Norwegian government imposed a tax on NOx emissions. Replacing constantly running diesel generators, saves us a lot of everything: fuel, noise, pollution, thruster and generator maintenance, emissions, the occasional drift-off. A clever combination of moorings and limited use of thruster has also been proven to be a very economic and environmentally friendly compromise.

All in all, we expect the annual net savings – i.e. after deducting fuel used by Anchor Handling Vessels (AHV) – to be about 34,140m³ or ca 30 million litres of diesel and 80.600 tons of NOx and CO2 emissions. This under the assumption that the rigs moored by us move on average 8 times a year, and anchor handling requires 1-4 vessels.

That’s what our solutions can do for you, and for the environment.
And it makes us quite proud.
