700+ MOORING LINE RELEASES

2 October 2023

RAR Plus: The Future of Mooring

The RAR Plus releasable mooring system from Delmar Systems is revolutionizing the offshore drilling industry. With its proven track record of success, it is the industry's preferred choice for mooring release technology. The high level of reliability provides enough confidence such that our customers are no longer sending out AHTS vessels to disconnect a rig. The rig can disconnect itself and transit away under its own power if equipped with self-contained propulsion.

This innovative system has now been deployed on over 95 rigs with over 700 successful mooring line releases for rig move efficiency, cyclone/hurricane evasion, and iceberg evasion. It has been used by 16 different energy companies and 10 different drilling contractors in regions all over the world, including some of the harshest environments.

The RAR Plus has a proven track record of success, with over 45,000 connected days without a single failure. Out of the 700+ mooring line releases, only three RAR Plus units have experienced acoustic transmission interference. In each case, the RAR Plus's proprietary self-contained mechanical backup release feature performed perfectly without delay or without any assistance from AHTS vessels.

Benefits of the RAR Plus

The RAR Plus offers a number of benefits to offshore drilling operators, including:

Rig move efficiency: The RAR Plus allows rigs to disconnect from their moorings and transit to a new location in a matter of hours instead of days. This can save operators millions of dollars in rig move costs.

Cyclone/hurricane evasion: The RAR Plus allows rigs to evade storms, ice floes, or well emergencies quickly. This can help to prevent damage to the rig and protect the crew.

Reduced HSE exposure: The RAR Plus reduces HSE exposure time for AHTS vessel on-deck personnel during rig moves.

Reduced environmental impact: The RAR Plus reduces CO2 emissions through operational efficiencies during rig moves.

How the RAR Plus Works

The RAR Plus is a releasable mooring system that uses acoustic technology to release mooring lines from the rig. The system consists of a release unit attached to the mooring line and a transceiver located on the rig. When the command is given to release the line, the transceiver sends an acoustic signal to the release unit. The release unit then activates a mechanical release mechanism that disconnects the mooring line from the rig.

The RAR Plus also has a proprietary self-contained mechanical backup release feature that ensures that the mooring line can be released even if there is a problem with the acoustic communication system. This mechanical system completely bypasses the electrical, acoustic, and hydraulic systems in the RAR Plus for ultimate reliability. The backup feature can be triggered by the rig using its mooring winches, or it can be triggered using an AHTS vessel in case the rig winches are inoperable.

The Releasable Mooring Revolution

Releasable mooring systems are becoming increasingly popular as offshore drilling operators seek ways to improve rig move efficiency and reduce the risk of mooring failures in severe weather events. The RAR Plus is the most reliable and efficient mooring system on the market, and it plays a vital role in transforming the offshore drilling industry.

The RAR Plus releasable mooring system is a revolutionary technology that is improving safety and efficiency in the offshore drilling industry. With its proven track record of success, the RAR Plus is the industry's preferred choice for mooring release technology.
