Mooring procedures for Jack Bates

10 October 1979

At the request of the drilling contractor Delmar Systems developed a procedure for mooring the semi-submersible drilling rig Jack Bates on a location West of the Shetland Islands in 5300’ water depth.

Aspects that played an important role in this were high current loads, load sharing of the mooring system between the AHTS vessels, and rig mooring equipment as well as environmental challenges of the location.

As the operator also had a mooring contractor on hire for this project, Delmar Systems served as the QA/QC party to align all procedures with the rig’s operational guidelines.

Mooring coordinators were provided on the rig as well as mooring superintendents on the AHTS vessels.
